The Road We Choose
My father kept the forest closed, Its gates of thorn, its guarded ways. A mountain burned beyond the leaves; I watched the gold stain autumn days. A pale dwarf prince rode into dusk, With grief held tight behind his eyes. I knew the law, I knew the cost, And let the stranger pass my sight. Then came the fire beneath the stone, The sudden fall of walls and crowns. I saw a kingdom lose its name, And heard old silence breaking down. I was the son of guarded halls, A bowstring drawn against the night. But every road beyond those trees Turned duty into chosen light. I left the greenwood, crossed the years, And learned what no bloodline can prove: The heart is not a thing we inherit— It is the road we choose to love. At Rivendell, the council weighed A shadow spreading from the east. I spoke the words that sent us forth, And joined the small, the brave, the least. Through snow and stone, through ash and rain, I kept my watch beside the flame; A ranger with a weathered cloak, A quiet bond that needed no name. I was the son of guarded halls, A bowstring drawn against the night. But every road beyond those trees Turned duty into chosen light. I left the greenwood, crossed the years, And learned what no bloodline can prove: The heart is not a thing we inherit— It is the road we choose to love. At Helm’s Deep, the dark came down; We stood where hope was nearly spent. At dawn, the fields were strewn with loss, Yet not one vow had come unmeant. Then white shores waited past the war, And all the weary could go home. I stayed beside my mortal friends, Though older paths called me alone. I was the son of guarded halls, Now bound by more than name or birth. I saw a crown return to stone, And small hands change the shape of earth. When one last ship bore westward light, I watched the greenwood rise anew. The heart is not a thing we inherit— It is the road we choose, and who We walk beside, through night and morning, Till all the long roads lead us through. My father’s forest fades behind; The sea wind carries what I knew. I chose the road. I chose my friends. And every age begins anew.

[Куплет 1] My father kept the forest closed, Its gates of thorn, its guarded ways. A mountain burned beyond the leaves; I watched the gold stain autumn days. A pale dwarf prince rode into dusk, With grief held tight behind his eyes. I knew the law, I knew the cost, And let the stranger pass my sight. [Предприпев] Then came the fire beneath the stone, The sudden fall of walls and crowns. I saw a kingdom lose its name, And heard old silence breaking down. [Припев] I was the son of guarded halls, A bowstring drawn against the night. But every road beyond those trees Turned duty into chosen light. I left the greenwood, crossed the years, And learned what no bloodline can prove: The heart is not a thing we inherit— It is the road we choose to love. [Куплет 2] At Rivendell, the council weighed A shadow spreading from the east. I spoke the words that sent us forth, And joined the small, the brave, the least. Through snow and stone, through ash and rain, I kept my watch beside the flame; A ranger with a weathered cloak, A quiet bond that needed no name. [Припев] I was the son of guarded halls, A bowstring drawn against the night. But every road beyond those trees Turned duty into chosen light. I left the greenwood, crossed the years, And learned what no bloodline can prove: The heart is not a thing we inherit— It is the road we choose to love. [Бридж] At Helm’s Deep, the dark came down; We stood where hope was nearly spent. At dawn, the fields were strewn with loss, Yet not one vow had come unmeant. Then white shores waited past the war, And all the weary could go home. I stayed beside my mortal friends, Though older paths called me alone. [Финальный припев] I was the son of guarded halls, Now bound by more than name or birth. I saw a crown return to stone, And small hands change the shape of earth. When one last ship bore westward light, I watched the greenwood rise anew. The heart is not a thing we inherit— It is the road we choose, and who We walk beside, through night and morning, Till all the long roads lead us through. [Аутро] My father’s forest fades behind; The sea wind carries what I knew. I chose the road. I chose my friends. And every age begins anew.
